Lorenzo Giachetti is the Director of the French language program. He earned his Ph.D. in French from Stanford University in 2015, writing a dissertation on Albert Camus. He has published on Camus, the “adjunctification” of higher education, and more recently, his research and interests have focused on foreign language pedagogy and language program coordination. With Hedwige Meyer, he is main contributor of two French language textbooks, Défi francophone 1 (2021) and Défi francophone 2 (2022). Along with all levels of foreign language, Lorenzo has regularly taught upper-division courses on media, politics and current events in the Francophone world, and he looks forward to teaching FR111- Greatest French Speeches in Winter 2026. Lorenzo previously taught both French and Italian at the University of Washington, where he served as the Department’s first Director of Language Programs between 2020 and 2024.
