Interdisciplinarity forms the heart of our academics in the Department of French and Italian. Our research and teaching draw on multiple fields as we believe that cross-disciplinary dialogue best leads to new insights about the French- and Italian-speaking worlds. Our faculty are trained in a range of disciplines, from literary criticism and history, to anthropology, folklore, linguistics, philosophy, translation studies, and more. In our scholarship, we seek to expand and energize our methodologies with ideas drawn from other critical approaches. We likewise bring this approach into the classroom, offering courses that inspire as well as galvanize conversation across scholarly disciplines. We invite you to discover our academics and to learn more about the interdisciplinary ethos that guides our work.
